TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

This is probably going to be a rambling post so bear with me.

Today is Funky Frolic's 2nd anniversary. It has been an incredible journey filled with many ups and downs but the time has come for me to say farewell and move on. It's not a decision I've made lightly but many of the things that have happened this year have sucked the fun out blogging. The file sharing issues and subsequent flood of re-requests took away the time and desire I had to create new content and I just couldn't muster the dedication that this place requires.

There are so many people I'd like to thank - from my fellow bloggers to all the wonderful people who left comments that would bring a smile to my face, friends and strangers alike. I've been lucky to have a group of supporters who helped make Funky Frolic what it is and it's been a joy to be part of a community of like-minded music lovers. Thank you all so much.

I feel like I've achieved everything I wanted here. The aim was always to celebrate the music I enjoy and bring it to the widest audience possible. I think that over the course of the last two years I've played my part in fostering the appreciation of certain genres amongst people. Around 7 or 8 terabytes of music have been downloaded through Funky Frolic and it's a thrill to know people have listened to albums I've recommended or mixes that I've created. I couldn't have imagined something I created would receive a million pageviews on the internet, let alone almost two million. It's been a wild ride and one I'll never forget.

I will leave the site up in case I have a change of heart and can't stay away or if I have a new project you might be interested in. I'll lock the comments function in a couple of weeks. You can contact me through my Blogger profile if you wish but please refrain from making music requests. I apologise to those who have outstanding re-up requests, I hope you are able to find what you're looking for somewhere else.

Well, I guess that's it. I've had a lot of fun and I hope you have too. As always, stay funky.

Mr.Craig.

Thanks for all the time and effort you've put into this. I appreciate it. I never would've discovered some of the absolutely incredible music that's out there had it not been for you. I had no idea what library music was a few years ago. Have a good one!

I've always been able to find something on your blog I didn't know about before... stuff on the Freestyle Records label for example.
So thank you, and be well wherever the fates carry you.

Thank you for all the fun and great music you have served up for us. I'm sorry to see you go, even if for a 'vacation' of sorts, but it's quite easy to understand how and why you feel the way you do. Just know I have never been disappointed by anything I have found here, and sincerely appreciate what an accomplishment it is and has been. Bon chance, cheers, and always the best for you!!!

Thanks Mr. Craig. I appreciate everything, every post. You've really had a tough work to gaher every vinyl to this blog. We'll miss it. You helped me to know what Library Music is, mainly by the Bruton Music and KPM albuns. Now they're a part of our daily listening. You're like a professor. That's it!

So thank you and the best wishes from Brazil.

I've been lurking, feeding and rejoicing from your blog since I've discovered it, which is a while back.

Cannot thank you enough for making my days so much better and helping get in groove with myself by tuning in to those wonderful sounds you uploaded.

Yeah, there seems to be little freedom in today's exchange of ideas and things that make us who we are.
We used to buy albums, spread the word, leave em at a friend's house, they'd copy it, love it or hate it, buy the 8-track, buy the tape, the vinyl anyway.
We owned things, not vapid bits and numbers on some suit's papers.

Eh, I digress.

The spirit of grooviness lives on, even if number-crunchers would have us Top Ten'ed within an inch of our sanity.

Burn your radio.

Download the future.

Live on, Brother.

Sorry you're calling it a day. But understandable after all the fire-sharing trouble. Maybe one early morning, when you find an urge to post something irresistable - you won't resist. Until then, ciao and thanks again.

Thank you so much for the time and dedication you have put into spreading the gospel of groove. You will be truly missed. I also didn't know of the genre of library music until I came across your board. You have giving me hours of enjoyment and allowed me to turn others on as well. T wish you peace, love and success in whatever you do in the future. It has been a pleasure visiting your digital home every week. God bless.

Great run, Craig. Brilliant to see a new load of music lovers discovering library music. I wish there was a solely library message forum as I miss the chat and information sharing. Much mileage in it do you reckon?

Charlie said...

Sorry to hear you are leaving. But I understand the main thing is personal enjoyment. If it's no longer fun, then it's time to shut down.

Thank you for many snngs that I would have never heard.

Many, many thanks, FF. Along with Retro-teque and Budd Schifrin, your site had some of the best comps and other posts on the web. The golden days of weekly, even daily new material may be gone now, but I, like everybody else here, am grateful for all that you have shared. Best wishes.

Sorry to see you go. But I can understand the reason for your decision. FF is a brilliant site which not only gave me the opportunity to hear some music which would otherwise pass me by but also provided excellent background notes to the albums. Thank you for all your hard work. Have a great summer!

Thank you very very much!! You really helped to spread the music all over this world and I hope you have all the luck in your new journey, please let us know about your next project. Muito obrigado Thank you. Kito

A simple thanks for sharing your music and contributing to my musical knowledge. It's been heavy on the bank balance, seeking and buying specific albums and tracks, be it on original/re-issue vinyl or CD, but it's be worth every penny... All the best...

Thank you so much for everything. I just discovered your blog a couple of months ago, and was thrilled with all of the music that you offered. It's a lot of work, I know, and really only worth it when you're having fun. Hopefully we'll hear from you again, but if not, please know that you've made a lot of people very happy :)

The music has made my mind and my heart melt.
It has served as key ingredients for samples and just inspiration in general. I don't think a simple thank you will suffice, but for now it will have to.
If anything this will motivate me to seek out the actual records, as I am a digital digger they say.
Funky frolic the and forever funky mr craig will continue to resonate in my head and in my music.

peace

Mr. Craig, thanks for sharing your love of music with others. Pop culture has its pockets of historical curiosity and funky personality; and you spotlighted a large chunk that most of us would not have otherwise known about. In that way, you are a researcher, filter of knowledge and friend to many anonymous like-minded people. Until we meet again, Cheers!

Sadness - thank you for enlighting me about music I knew existed but didn't, (if that makes any sense - lol). Seriously, I really appreciate what you have done. I love the chill out of much of this music, as well as the talent and professionalism. It has "hit the spot" so to say, and makes me feel more whole as a person. Thank you sincerly, and good luck to you.

Your site was my first Library Blog, Mr.C, and I shall ALWAYS be grateful for all the wonders you introduced me to.

Funky Frolic, and the ones I discovered afterwards, helped to keep me sane in a "year of hell" while I was, pretty much, house-bound due to my Mom's declining health and her need for constant care.

The Library will be a lot quieter without your voice in it.

Take care, Bro!

Tex

It has been a sad year for library freaks with the departure of Retro-teque and now Funky Frolic but having followed the ups and downs on many music blogs and most of them seem to have a natural cycle, one that has been speeded up by the file-sharing sites that have either shut-down, deleted accounts or come up with user-friendly ideas like Rapidshare's recent "public traffic exhausted" outrage.

I think there comes a point like Mr Craig says, when at least 8 out of ten comments are for reposts and at least one more is an album request, that you begin to feel the fun has gone out of it.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you so much for your hard work, dedication and I am pretty sure that somewhere down the line, Mr Craig will appear again in a new guise!

You, Sir, have been a star!
